Seamus O'Tanner

Seamus O'Tanner is Olio's father. Now deceased, he was a skilled singer during his lifetime.

Seamus was born to family of traveling performers. He had a typical childhood spent hunting, cleaning, cooking and learning how to sing, dance and play an instrument. As a child he aspired to become a Bard, one of those performers who was capable of weaving magic into their song. His parents supported this goal, but he was unable to find a suitable tutor who could teach him these ways. When he was old enough he forged out on his own with only his sword and mandolin, facing many dangers until he came to a fairly large port city. There he met Leigh, his future wife, and they were married and formed a traveling performance duo. As they had children more performers were added to the repertoire.

When he was 33, Seamus was arrested by the police of a cruel and tyrannical land baron. He was accused of trespassing, theft, and treason and sentenced to death by hanging. The sentence was carried out quickly and with little hesitation. His final wish was that one of his children might survive and make real the Bard he could only dream of.

Leigh O'Tanner

Leigh O'Tanner is Olio's mother. Raised in a very elf-centric household, she is a woman of both sophisticated tastes and a thirst for adventure.

Leigh was born into a (rather wealthy) bastard branch of a noble sea-elf clan. From her youth she was taught to appreciate and work for the fineries of life. As a result, she developed very sophisticated tastes, manners, linguistics, and knowedge of arts and cultures. Despite this, she was a passionate person with a yearning for adventure. She also had a very broad and powerful imagination, and the fact that she was highly literate in multiple languages and had access to a wide array of story books didn't help her parents encourage her to take up a more subdued lifestyle. Leigh's prayers were answered in the form of a fine young player by the name of Seamus O'Tanner. After considerable arguing her father begrudgingly agreed to a marriage. She struck out on the road with him, forming a performing duo. The had five children during their time together, and as the children grew, more people were added to their troupe.

Leigh was captured when she (very vocally) protested the arrest of her husband, Seamus. She was imprisoned in the baron's castle until her trial, during which she was found guilty of assistance to attempted murder, resisting arrest, treason, and trespassing. She was sentenced to death by hanging, a sentence carried out shortly after Seamus'. Her last hope in life was that she could know her love again.

Seamus O'Tanner, Jr.

Seamus O'Tanner is Olio's older brother. He was a fiery youth with a good heart who aspired to someday become a knight.

Seamus was born to his mother and father into a traveling performer band. From a young age he was irresistably drawn to adventure and excitement of all kinds. His father found this an encouraging sign, and his mother, though she was continually worried by his antics and exploits, was very pleased to have such an adventurous child. Seamus practiced every day with his sword, intent on someday joining the ranks of brave and noble soldiers who he aspired to be like, and spend the rest of his time hunting and helping with the family.

All his dreams came to a crash when his father was placed under arrest for a crime he didn't (in young Seamus' eyes) commit. These noble people he admired so turned out to be nothing more than pawns for some stuck-up and unjust tyrant, and he ran after them in a rage, intent only on rescuing his dad. Seamus was killed before he could strike his first blow on another man, and his bold actions had no effect on his father's fate.

Shae O'Tanner

Shae O'Tanner is Olio's older sister. Of all the people in the family, she was the one Olio was closest to.

Shae was born to her parents on a stormy night. From birth she was a quiet, calm child, much in contrast to her older brother, Seamus Jr. Shae loved long walks in the quiet woods and listening to her mother play the harp. She always held interest in the higher arts, much like her mother, but had little of her taste for raw adventure and excitement. She joined her brother on his adventures, though, and liked being with him despite his rauceousness. She also loved her younger siblings. She was closest to Loren.

When Shae was fifteen, her father was arrested. Shae didn't openly protest the arrest, opting to protect the children and run with them in case of trouble. However, she was captured and accused of assistance to attempted murder, trespassing, defending a criminal, and failure to enforce the law. While she was in prison she was raped several times by the prison guards, making her very depressed and hopeless. Her feelings thankfully came to an end when she was hung for her crimes.

Loren O'Tanner

Loren O'Tanner (alias Olio Leigh'O) is the third child of Seamus and Leigh O'Tanner.

Loren O'Tanner is the middle child of the O'Tanner family. From birth he was rather intelligent and somewhat distant from the rest of his family, always his mind off contemplating the trees or birds or sky, or some abstract principle which his childish vocabulary couldn't make concrete. He was pale and skinny with flaming red hair, and his older brother always called him "beet-top" so he would never forget this fact. Of all the O'Tanner's, Loren was best friends with his older sister, Shae, who willingly listened to his ramblings and showed true interest; she was also pleasant company when they joined their older brother on one of his treks through the wilderness. Loren honored and loved his father, but viewed his mother with an almost mystical level of veneration. He knew of her elvish ancestry and viewed it as a gift bestowed on all of them, granting them both musical talents and an affinity for nature. Aspiring to become a gifted singer as she, Loren learned both string instruments and some of the Elvish language from her. He also picked up on her sophisticated language and mannerisms, finding it a suitable way of expressing his thoughts.

Loren's life with his family came to an end when they were set upon by patrolmen and his father was arrested for trespassing. A turmoil resulted, during which his brother was killed and Loren broke into a run to flee. The entire family (including Loren) was captured, and all of them were convicted of various crimes and sentenced to death.

Loren was only saved by his own tremendous effort, in which he clawed his way into and out of an adjoining cell and escaped the town through the sewers. He ran off into the wilderness, and it was soon that his life as Loren O'Tanner, wanderer of the Western Isles, would come to an end.

Sherry O'Tanner

Sherry O'Tanner is the fourth child and second daughter of Seamus and Leigh O'Tanner.

Sherry O'Tanner was born in spring, and from birth she was a happy, curious, and very energetic girl. She looked up to her parents and eldest brother for their adventurous spirit and taste for excitement, and she aspired to be a traveling dancer and musician. She loved long treks through the woods with the rest of her siblings, though frequently got upset due to being tag-along who "weighed everyone down." They were helpful most of the time, though.

When her father was taken captive, she started to escape with her older sister and younger brother, but she was caught as well. Whether she was convicted or put to death is a mystery.

Jon O'Tanner

Jon O'Tanner is the fifth child and third son of Leigh and Seamus O'Tanner.

Jon was born in spring, similar to his older sister Sherry. He was an energetic child, but because of his wee little age, his mother wouldn't have any ideas of him running off with his older siblngs on their adventures through the woods. This upset him, but he was always easy to appease with a gift from the woods or a little game.

Jon was sleeping while his father was captured. He was carried by his sister Shae for a short while before being captured himself. What became of him after this is currently a mystery.
