Backstory
Rayn is from a rural and heavily forested area in Juno. Both of his parents are human, though he was raised by the community of humans and elves.
Being raised amongst elves, Rayn was trained to fight in adolescence. Having heard tales of heroes and met the occasional transient adventurer, he became very interested in the "High Risk, High Pay, High Adventure" lifestyle of bounty hunters.
When Rayn reached adulthood, he set out on his own to find the the big cities and get work as an adventurer. It wasn't until he reached the city of Juno itself that he realized how quaint and sheltered his upbringing had been. Within the time of a few days, he was introduced to the concepts of tall buildings, surfaced roads, commercial wizardry, heavy armor, law enforcement, nobility, and alcohol.
Struggling to find some connection with the world that he knew, Rayn frequented most all of the spectacles of local performers that he could find the time for. Through these experiences, he learned about a lot of cultural differences between humans and elves, and quickly learned to distinguish bards from "carnies."
Rayn's social misadventures took him up and down the western coast, and he eventually decided that it was better if he just got on a boat to go and start a new life in a different world.
Role in Party
Rayn is skilled as a tracker, and has been able to lead the party in the direction of their quarry over large amounts of terrain. He and Medea also are unmatched by others in the party at extremely long range combat.
Psychology
Rayn has a tendency to be cynical of everything that encounters for the first time. Over the years that he has been on his own, he has adopted the Aristotilian viewpoint that one can only trust what he or she has experienced with his or her own senses.
Having grown up in a commune that was pretty closed off from the world, Rayn isn't completely used to the idea of close personal relationships. His interaction with other people usually does not go beyond the camaraderie between members of an adventuring party.
Alignment
Rayn is Chaotic Neutral. He prefers being able to go where he wants to when he wants to and for reasons that are his own. He tends to be selfish and ungenerous with his own possessions, but awarding everyone his or her fair share of spoils is a part of his etiquette that he clings rather strongly to. What is considered "fair" depends on the circumstances, of course.
Relationships
Rayn actually cares about people, but he'd never say it.
- Medea - I think that we still make a pretty good team. She knows how to get things done.
- Lueali - Looks like whatever he figured out how to do worked. Good thing, too: I was getting kind of sick of everything being so screwed up.
- Tiger - What a crazy kid. I think we all could learn a thing or two from him.
- Khae - I appreciate this guy's apparent thought process. He doesn't let things get too complicated.
- Iliustrae - I told you she had issues.
- Harris -
Why didn't we resurrect this one again ? That makes more sense now. - Flora - Sounds like she'll be able to get back to what she's good at doing again.
- Stavok - A great resource for when you start taking not being bored out of your mind for granted.
- Scarlet - Looks like her plan pulled together pretty well: I think she took my advice on this one, but it's not like she didn't already figure it out.
- Araxin - The world needs people like this guy to balance out
- Kate - Things change. At least, they should be allowed to. It's good to see that they can change for the better: she's a lot easier to get along with than she used to be.
- Can't Spell it - I don't even know what half the shit she turns in to is, but it's pretty awesome.
- Silver - Now that stuff is back to normal, we can tear some shit up something hardcore like. Did you hear that sound? That was the sound of you not messing with Dragon Justice.
Quotes
(To Tiger) "A lot of people like us have animal companions. Medea has her hippogryph, and I have you."
"Ok, this is going to sound really shallow, and pretty shortsighted, but, uh... all of this doesn't change anything about gettin' on that boat in a week or so, right?"
"At this rate, he's going to know more spells than you! And he's like, ten."
Lueali: "I think that it's great that you are studying magic, Tiger, but there's a particular time and place for all that."
Rayn: "Look who's talking."
(to Lueali's corpse) "It'd be nice if he was always this quiet."
(to Araxin) "Hey, they're all bunched together, and they're not even paying attention to us. Can't you like... ya know... bzzt?"
(with Tiger) "Dragon Justice!"
Baron von Zeitkonheim: "How may I greet the pleasure of your company?"
Everyone: "..."
Rayn: "With better grammar than that."
"No, dude, just shut up. Seriously, just take your fucking Power-Mullet and get lost."
