Raiden Nataku

Background
Taken in by The Temple of Heironeous, Raiden Nataku serves as a paladin of Corellon Larethian, The Protector and Preserver of Life. Raiden serves primarly as the "Tank" and undead fighter when the occasion calls for it. Being born a Half-Elf, Raiden has grown use to being criticized and unwanted by both Humans and Elves. For having to deal with years of this abuse, he tends to intentionally keep himself away from human contact. Read a book, study alchemy, anything at all to stay away from people who can potentially bring back the feelings he wants to forget of a very painful childhood.

Story
Raiden was born as the sole child of Sho and Laute Nataku. Laute was born into the noble family of Laidon and assigned to be an Attaché of the Elven city of Zi’tah when she came of age. On one of her many diplomatic ventures to the Duchy of Tavnazia, she met a handsome and well-mannered human named Sho. Since her assignment permitted her to stay as needed, Laute and Sho spent much time with each other. After four years her assignment was complete and was ordered to return to her homeland. Shortly after her return, she told her tale of having a relationship with Sho and that she was now married and pregnant with his child. Since this was a sensitive matter, especially to the Liadon bloodline, an agreement was made that Laute would become an Ambassador to Tavnaiza, stay with Sho and raise their child in the Human city. About six years later, a sedge by an unknown force hit the Duchy of Tavnazia and killed Sho while he tried to protect his family. This last image of his father was burned into Raiden's mind. With a heavy heart, Laute cremated her husbands’ remains and carried thier son, Raiden, to Zi’tah.
It was while in Zi’tah that Raiden heard the call to Paladin-hood from The Protector. Raiden begged his mother to let him train in the temple, which she was against out of fear of losing, not only her son, but her only remaining connection to her late husband. After a year of the Liadon family taking care of Raiden, and hearing his constant ranting of becoming a Paladin, they tried suggesting to Laute, to just send him to the temple of their deity. Laute refused to be parted from her son, but saw her son was determined to serve as a Paladin, one of the rarest protectors of their faith. Laute reluctantly sent her son with a pendant, a kiss, and her blessing.
At the age of seven, Raiden entered the Temple of Corellon Larethain. To the Temple, this was quite a surprise to be asked to raise a Half-Elf to be a Paladin, of all things, to their deity. But not just everyone hears the call to be one. So the Temple happily accepted Raiden in their order and trained him in the ways of the Divine Warrior, the Paladin. Over his years of training, his performance improved and even surpassed many of his peers in the ways of Divine Magic. He was praised by many of his trainers, but, on many occasions, he would have to deal with the racist comments from his fellow trainees. This abuse took a toll on him, to a point where he didn’t talk to his fellow peers for a time. As the years passed, he was slowly accepted among his peers and even taught their Elven ways and knowledge to the extent that a Half-elf learns such intricate things.
At the age of sixteen, an evil force attacked the Temple of The Protector, and a battle ensued. Many lives where lost, good triumphed, but at a high price. Their Temple was destroyed and very little remained of their order. A dozen or so composed of several clerics, trainees, trainers, priests, and paladins survived. From there, Raiden was sent to the Kingdom of Juno to continue his training at the The Temple of Heironeous by what was left of his order. Being the the “closest” and most respectable Temple which lied across another continent, Raiden had no choice if he wished to continue his training. He returned to Zi’tah to bid his mother adieu, and left for Juno.
When Raiden arrived in Juno, he was welcomed as a fellow Paladin and resumed training and education under Sir Lawrence Lamington and his instructors, not to mention the Legendary Dame Helga Vyers that help establish Juno and The Temple of Heironeous as it is today. But due to the sensitive matter of his lineage, his bloodline was kept secret from the Temple with the exception of Father Michahlis. During this time, Raiden was once again bombarded by remarks of his “tainted” blood from the civilian worshipers that visited the temple. His unique facial features (i.e. Eyes and Hair) were enough to spark up slander even more violently then when he was in the care of his Elven order. This constant bashing made him even more withdrawn from human contact. Raiden, ended up very “watered-down” and isolated, even contemplating suicide. But, knowing The Protector called Raiden to serve him, the thought of ending his life prematurely left his mind faster than a heartbeat, never to return to his thoughts again.
Through his training, he meets a strange girl by the name of Searil. A kind-hearted, but short tempered young trainee. At first sight, Searil had mistaken Raiden for a woman, due to his…well very effeminate face and long hair. For awhile, Raiden considered Searil a bit crazy, telling him at times that there was "A crab and squirrel fighting on the alter..." It was awhile before he was told that she hallucinated at times. As time passed, they grew to be best friends. Raiden was, at one point, infatuated with Searil, but realized that such a relationship could not be so, and has since abandoned the thought.
Role in Party
Raiden’s Role in the party is currently unclear. His primary function is “The Tank” with his spiked full-plate armor and Tower Shield. But, when it comes to using force, Raiden tends to be a little more successful when it comes to undead. Though, through his training and his own natural abilities as a Half-Elf, he could be an exceptional diplomat, but is far too under-spoken and shy to fit the bill. With all the reading he does, he would make an impressive wizard, but his passion lies with the sprit of being a Paladin. After returning to Juno after their recent journey, Raiden has thought of following a different path of the Paladin then his companion Searil has chosen, yearning to be more than "The Tank". Until that day, he currently serves as the Undead-turning, cock-blocking wall of steel and wood (*ahem* >.>; ) known as “The Tank”.
Psychology
Raiden acts very anti-social. He was raised in two societies where his kind was generally not welcome, and has always felt thusly every time he isn’t in the temple. Due to his shy, under-spoken nature, he doesn’t back-up his friend, Searil, verbally when it comes to matters of diplomacy, strategy, or common sense. Since Raiden entered the The Temple of Heironeous, he has purposely suppressed his more “ambitious” attitude to conform and respect the Temple that took him in.
Raiden figures he will grow old and alone, the thought doesn’t really bother him. He tries every now and then to loosen up, but has been unsuccessful every time, always defaulting that he’s letting his guard down. Wanting to be a little more random like his party-mates, he tries to open-up when he feels it’s safe to be open, which is very rare.
To Raiden, being a Paladin is what he lives for, even though he doesn’t show it. He is willing to help in anyway he can. He will do everything in his power to protect not only members of his party, but people he is sworn to protect. If his life will save the many or serve the greater good, he will end his existence without hesitation.
Though too quiet for his own good, Raiden is a companion that has potential. Now if we can only get him to talk a little more, it might do a world of good for him…
Alignment
Raiden is Chaotic Good, though his actions thus far don’t support it. (Acts more Lawful than Chaotic) He believes that there are rules and laws to aid a society, but these are written by the hand of man, and thus, it’s not always a wise choice to trust ones with the power to make laws. As the old saying goes “Absolute power corrupts absolutely.” To preserve and protect the presence of security, loyalty, honor, and the good that life has to offer is all Raiden strives to do. When law fails to protect these simple aspects of life and the people it was made for, he tries to find his own way to protect them. Even if it means his death.
Relationships
Raiden has few friends, in fact only one before he joined this group. Raiden’s philosophy is that just because you hang out with people for a long time, doesn’t make them friends, an acquaintance at best, and that’s if they are lucky. To call one a friend is a serious thing, you are willing to protect, defend, support, and even give your life without a second thought for that person to be a true friend. A friend is family. Raiden is willing to do so, and then some, however, he feels that he falls short as a friend when it comes to Searil. Due to his anti-social behavior, this causes him to not to speak-up when a voice is needed to back Searil up.
- Mydo Bandydo: Well, definitely one of the more scheming characters of the bunch. He is not much for “looking before you leap”, he runs on instinct. Sure there are a few breaks of sanity in his demeanor where he thinks about his actions, rarely, but they happen. But he is definitely one you want to cover your back, the arena and our travels proved that much. Mydo is very outgoing and friendly when he’s sober. He’s... well, kinda what I want to be socially…Except for the whole scheming, drunk, 5 silver pieces for flint-and-steel having, ale-chugging, insane random-plan-having thing... He is an alright guy.
- Gnaat Uluchu: I like her; she’s got a charm that’s well, hmm…Different from the norm. But she does have difficulties socially. I mean, I have problems too, I don’t want to sound like a hypocrite, it’s just punching someone in the face makes it kind of hard to get to a peaceful and diplomatic resolution. Most of the time she puts fore-thought into her decisions, but it’s nice to see she has a random side also. Gnaat is kind of unkempt, but nothing a nice bath and a comb won’t fix, who knows, she might be pretty beautiful if she cleans up. But she is one amazing fighter; I’ve never seen such speed and power, and her acrobatics is amazing to me anyway, I mean, I can’t jump and dodge like she can, nor have I seen anyone that could. Gnaat is definitely an asset and good friend to have.
- Searil Gellantara: One of the most caring, ambitious women I’ve ever met. We befriended each other during our training in the Temple. She likes to show her companions she’s strong and… well a Paladin. But she’s really a sweet person when she is not exploding things with that sword of hers. She scares me at times, but I know her heart is in the right place, and she will always be there for us, and I for her… Don’t tell her I said that last part… >.>;
- Olio Leigh'O: Every since we left for this journey south, it seems she gets more and more...how do you say this nicely?...Dense... the further away we got from the Jeno/Alizarin border. I know she is just trying to help, but yeah, there are times where you can not take the weight of a situation on your shoulders alone and think you, and only you, have the best of chances to solve every encounter we come across. There is a reason we all decided to join in this endeavor, to aid one another where a lot of us would normally not do so well or not exactly be the best person to talk to certain people. Hopefully she has learned from this experience, failure births Wisdom...(I Hope... >.>;)
- Aeleria Ravenclaw: She is a very kind and well-tempered person. Aeleria is very patient and helpful. Always ready to heal our wounds, aid in battle, helping in any way possible with her loyal animal companion. I wish I had a way to thank her that was proportional to her aid, but all I can say is “Thank you.” Aeleria is a little quiet, but speaks when she feels is necessary to say something vital.
- Arinae Galanodel: Interesting little Moon Elf, she reminds my of home, Zi'tah...How they would tease each other and laugh with the other Elves on how much better they where than the other, instead of the attacks I'm use to getting. She seems to be really good with those chains, says she is a master. But she sometimes seems to be the first one to go down in a fight...and sometimes the first to leave a potential fight *cough* Avarice *cough*...
- Alistin Kittentouch: An interesting Elf that is good at her art. I was always at wits end trying to keep myself from exploding from her comments about how we “Half-Humans” are so inferior to them. But, just because I’m the way I am, doesn’t mean I can't appreciate the arts. I’m sure her and others of her kind would find a way to counter my argument, but I’m content that I know beauty or something well executed when I see it… I wonder how many books she has handled since that day.
- Dresvan Hanodel: He Seems like an alright Elf, but sadly, I think that all I'll ever know about him. All I know is he is just like any other Elf that hates my guts, but the feeling isn’t mutual. I didn’t ask to be born this way, but all I can do is deal with the lies and slander for something that was out of my control. Maybe one day we can actually be friends...I know, I know...I can still dream, right? But since our travels to the south, I can see why not just Dresvan, but most Elvan hate humans...and why they hate my kind because of it...
- Shifty McGee: I don’t care much for him…He should be saved, if it’s at all possible. Otherwise, make sure he doesn't harm anyone or anything for good.
- Frederick Meyer: A powerful and intelligent wizard, Created stasis magic based on the F.M. Theory that kept Dame Helga in suspended for over 200 years... sometimes I wish I wasn't a half-elf, to have that time would be so precious to me...
- Sir Lawrence Lamington: Mentor and considered a friend. Sir Lawrence guided me from the day I arrived to the present. His strength and encouragement have played a big part to all his students. He is kind of like a father to the Paladin Trainees and the Paladins that have been trained under him. I would fight along side him any day.
- Dame Helga Vyers: I respect her to the highest regard, even more so since that event in the Temple. A deity doesn't just choose anyone to be endowed as Madam Helga has been. She is quite scary at times with her bombast, but I think of her as one of those people who stresses the belief of “Tough Love.” As long as you have nothing to hide, your in good company. I hope to reach the ranks of my god, that she has done so with hers... one day...
- Victor von Pthfonkenhausen: Look at me… I laugh and scare people, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah… I’ll lych all over the place and laugh, meh-yes Mahahahahahaha, parlor tricks…meeyess...*sigh*
