The Country of Juno
The largest and most historically stable country along the western coast of the continent, Juno upholds the peace that keeps it's neighboring countries from war.
Geography
Layout
Juno lies at the center of a once massive empire that covered the western half of the continent. Upon the empire's fall, the land fell into war and was eventually split into 4 countries. Juno lies at it's center, and as a result always ends up involved in some dispute or another. Because of this, great strides were made in military and diplomatic development to prevent more arguements over the past to erupt into tragedies of the present. Wars cause great damage to a country however, and the capital was moved to it's present location near the northern end of Juno a few hundred years ago.
Landscape
The country is composed of mostly temperate land interlaced with rivers. The north is covered in a large mountain range that acts as a barrier between Juno and Drakenheim. To the east are the Dakri Woods stretching out to the mark the northern half of the border between Juno and Lasaedar. Finally the Dakri river runs along the remaining land seperating Juno from Lasaedar and Alizarin. Coastline make up the last side of the counry, and rolling hills cover the rest. Many people come to enjoy the southern plains of Juno, and some think the landscape shows so much prosperity because the country is binds itself to a good god.
Climate
If anyone has anything to complain about in Juno it is the weather. During the non-summer months the weather is always dull or raining in some way. During the summer however, the weather is nearly always sunny with few or no clouds. When it does rain, it only rains lightly. Weather can be a fickle thing though, and the presence of evil rising throughout the land has caused weather shifts before. When will demons and mages learn that the weather isnt their plaything?
History
Juno's history is dotted with wars and disputes starting from the day the Pavel Empire broke apart. Most are skirmishes and minor occurances with neighboring countries, but some grew into larger confrontations. Every one of these stems from the right to the empire. Juno lies in the middle of where the empire once stood, claiming most of the trade routes and acting as a middle man to all of the outlying countries. Her neighbors take offense to this fortune, and often find cause to claim it as their own. To prevent domestic problems in order to better deal with foreign ones, when the opportunity to claim Heironeous as a patron deity arose, the King took it. Now disputes are fewer between the countries, and anything causing bloodshed is formally denied by the other involved countries. Nobles can't afford to lose the faith of their people over a claim to power. Most have come to know how peaceful Juno is, and any open hostility is frowned upon by most goodly people. Because of this, the last 20-30 years have been in complete peace.
Culture
Demographics
The country of Juno has a population of roughly 325,000. The racial breakup is as such: 60% human, 15% half-elf, 17% elf, 4% gnome, and 4% halflings.
The human population easily dominant in the region, and most of the elves reside in the forests. The half elves travel between the two frequently, supporting any sort of trade.
