Character Traits

These are the Artist Party ++ character traits. Please note: The numeric values of the traits are not listed so that an attempt to create some sort of super-character does not occur. Try to figure out what they do just from the description, and think of it based on purely an RP standpoint.

Also note: Characters can gain and lose these traits depending on how they are RP'ed.

How Traits Change

Gaining/Losing Traits

Characters are considered for new traits and losing old ones at each level up. The player for the leveled up character and one of the DMs will review how the character acts as a whole and come up with defining characteristics. It is very important that the player picks traits based on RP with no numerical bias. For example, Shifty might get the trait childish. This could mean a downshift in charisma and an upshift in intelligence somewhere in the character. As a player of Shifty, this may not be appealing so I won't list that trait. That is the wrong thing to do. The DM isn't leveraging the traits against you so don't leverage them against him. They are meant to best fit the character.

Once the list of traits are compiled, any that seem particularly well suited are reviewed for a numerical representation. If one is agreed upon, it may be put into effect. It is possible that no new traits will come from a level up.

Similarly, losing traits works the same way. If you think your newly leveled up character doesn't fit the fatass trait anymore, then mention that and it will be reviewed. Again, the DM is working with you on this one. If the trait isn't removed, please don't create a disturbance over it.

Changing a Trait's Effects

Its a variant, it isn't really tested. So if you think that a trait is imbalanced (and not just for your character, but for ALL characters) then appeal that during the level up as well. It will be reviewed.

Traits Gimping/Buffing a Character

It happens. It may stink, or really rock, but it helps bring color to your character's personality. ie: Olio really only tries diplomacy on men due to her sex appeal approach; Raiden gets good intelligence rolls due to reading books constantly instead of interacting with people; and Arinae stinks at finding that book on undercommon because she is a social shut in wrapped in chains. It may not help you do what you want, but this is what makes our characters interesting instead of having that star wars nerd of a character who can mesmerize an entire tavern with his 30 perform lightsaber duel check.

Known Traits

Anpeloritis (Hallucinates)

To put it simply--you see things. Images can be from hilarious to horrifying, but whatever they may be, they all have one thing in common--they don't exist.

  • Characters with said trait include: Searil

Cautious

Always look before you leap. Those are the words you live by. Your cautious nature allows you to save your composure if you screw up, but you’ll never take enough of a risk to get an overwhelming success.

  • Characters with said trait include: Raiden

Common Man

You’re a down-to-earth kind of guy (or gal). Getting along better with the average Joe is your forte… But your cool, low-class attitude won’t get you points among the rich and famous.

  • Characters with said trait include: Mydo

Composed

Ever seen a paladin in a seedy bar? There’s a reason for that. You fit much better with the more honorable people of town, as they tend to understand your serious demeanor much much better. Those who live freely have a very hard time understanding you, though, and most of the time you just come off as an asshole to them.

  • Characters with said trait include: Allerance

Extreme Luck

When you've got luck, you've really got luck. You will always hit someone’s weak point after getting lucky, and you perform miracles with skills better than the average person. But when you screw up, you really screw up.

  • Characters with said trait include: Mydo

Impulsive

... Screw caution. If you lash out as quickly as possible, the enemy doesn't have time to react. Well, I mean, maybe leaping into all those diplomatic scenarios with a swift punch in the face isn't the best of ideas, but come on--that guy was dangerous!

  • Characters with said trait include:

Infatuation

Love can always cloud one’s better judgment, especially when your loved one is in a dangerous scenario. The dangers of battle make you much more likely to leap to your loved one’s aid before anything else, but your emotion allows you to defend them better.

  • Characters with said trait include: Searil

Klepto

While not neccessarily greedy, the desire to just grab, grab, grab can influence one's better reasoning. Your ability to judge swiped items is reduced due to the fact that you just take whatever shiny object you can, regardless of its worth, but at least you're better at taking the shiny objects.

  • Characters with said trait include: Raevynn

Medic

You’re used to helping those in need. Healing comes much easier for you, whether it be from magic or from skills. All of that attention on healing, though, results in a less adept combat style, both with magic and with physical damage.

  • Characters with said trait include: Aleria

Rejected

You’ve never truly been accepted for who you are. Whether it is because of your race, or your ideals, your home was never truly a home. Because you are used to everyone starting off with a bias against you, you are wiser and much more cautious. However, you’re far too insecure to deal with people properly.

  • Characters with said trait include: Arinae, Raiden

Rowdy

You’re a free spirit, and it clearly shows. Those who understand your freedom-loving nature are quite attracted to the way you hold yourself up. Those who dislike your chaotic nature, however, find it harder to deal with you.

  • Characters with said trait include: Mydo,

Sex Appeal

Let’s face it—you use what you have to get what you want, if you know what I mean. Dealing with members of the opposite gender, especially those who have taken an… interest to you is much easier. But members of the same gender tend to view you with contempt, whether it is from jealousy or morality.

  • Characters with said trait include: Olio

Socially Inept

Dealing with people, whether it is because you just plain don’t want to or because you’re afraid to, is not what you excel at. Due to the fact that most of the time you would rather deal with information or books over people, your knowledge is greater than the average person.

  • Characters with said trait include: Arinae, Raiden

Stand-out

You attract attention. No matter what you say or what you do, the spotlight seems to shine on you. This does not exclude monsters and other foes, who see you as more noticeable than the rest of your friends. Not only this, but when the party is expressing their views on a diplomatic matter, your opinions tend to be much more noticeable than everyone else’s.

  • Characters with said trait include: Mydo, Searil, Olio

Wallflower

Unlike those who get the spotlight all the time, you avoid the spotlight. Most of the time rather than causing something to happen, you wait for something to happen to you and go with it. Enemies notice this, and won’t pay as much attention to you as, say, the boisterous man wearing the flashy uniform. But this also means that your opinion can be very easily not heard.
