Ashdale

Ashdale is a medium city in extreme southern arm of Juno. It is currently abandoned for the most part.

Geography

Layout

Ashdale has a central fortress around which the main streets spread out like wheelspokes to the various gates of the city. The quality of housing and wealth of businesses tends to diminish as distance from the fortress increases. Little or none of the city exists outside the wall.

Landscape

The landscape around Ashdale consists mostly of rolling green hills and sparse woodlands.

Climate

Typical Juno climate. Rainy weather is seldom seen.

History

Ashdale lies in the borderlands between Alizarin and Juno. As a result, it was the focal point of many border/territorial disputes between the two kingdoms. When the dust of the war settled and a shaky truce was reached, the city was somewhat forgotten and both nations lost their focus on it. This made it an easy target for an uprising by various local rebels. They quickly gained control of the city and established a tyrannical regime.

The Junoan army headed south to neutralize the rebellion and re-establish order, but in the middle of the semi-successful attack, a larger threat materialized. An evil and powerful lich used the city as a soup cauldron for brewing an army of undead. Waves of death swept over the city as Junoans and rebels alike were turned into mindless hordes of zombies. A few people escaped with their lives to inform the people north of the event.

A few weeks later, the Temple of Heironeous launched a crusade to rid the world of the festering evil there. By this time, the lich had vanished, but a powerful necromancy cult had established a firm foothold. They were quickly and easily defeated by the servants of justice and valor, however, and the city was cleaned out.

Because of the events that transpired and the fact that most locals died, the city is currently abandoned as a center of civilization, with the exception of a few nomadic bands who use the city's empty buildings as shelter.
