Biography
Araxin Melor was born near the city capital of Juno. His childhood was sheltered and involved little influence from the outside or even from other families, other then the lessons he and his brothers were given by a tutor on literacy and history. Though he kept up academically with his older brothers, he was unable to participate in the swordfighting lessons due to a sickness that kept him confined to the house for a year.
Around the age of 17, Araxin was given intense pressure by his family to go out and prove himself, since he was the fourth son and not of any particular use to the family. He spent four years learning magic and tactics at the Tiramor School of Academics and War, and sought for a place to prove his skills. At first, he attempted to obtain a position aiding the government with his magic, but they weren't exactly interested in a mage whose magic were only useful in war, so he looked for other places he could aid the community with the skills he had.
On the way back to his family's home, Araxin met up with Lyris, a son of the family's friends, who had been accepted by Heironeous as a paladin and who was leaving the area to investigate rumors of a group of bandits that had been kidnapping wormen and holding them for ransom. Araxin traveled with Lyris to the and aided him in his quest, and returned with Lyris to the temple. Araxin continued aiding the temple of Heironeous and following Lyris on his quests until a battle with the dragon Ruxis, where Lyris was killed. The small red dragon was also slain, but there was little left of Lyris after the battle.
Araxin retreated to the Temple of Heironeous and spent a month in quiet study and contemplation before once again becoming a useful member of the temple.
With the encouragement of Hardrick, Araxin traveled with a group to many places far away from the lands he had traveled before; until he died in a watchtower of the far north while trying to foil the plans of Sikle. Though returned to live, he lost his memories of the time he had spent with the group.
Araxin stayed with the Temple of Heironeous thereafter; when divine power was locked off from the Temple he did what he could to research the causes, as well as aid the temple with the spells and resources available to him. With the failing of divine magic, and with battles for resorces becoming more common in the areas around Juno, Araxin found that the destructive spells he had trained in had become far more important then his history knowledge in order to aid the causes he cared about, and took a more traditional warmage role in the relating skirmishes, working with the army of Juno to deal with any threats.
Family
Araxin is the fourth son of Melor family, a clan of minor nobles who were granted land some time ago for their services in the war of ???. The family takes great pride in their background (though things are 'different now') and encouraged Araxin and his brothers to excel at war arts and tactics. Members of the family are expected to behave with manners and appropriately both within the confines of the house and outside in public.
Alignment
Araxin is lawful good. Araxin believes that both maintaining an image of order and serving as an example for the people to follow are both important to keeping a community together, and is unlikely to openly question the opinion of superiors. Araxin believes that all the members of a community are responsible for working together to improve said community. Recent times have led Araxin to be suspicious of those he does not know, particularly when it comes to groups which directly compete with Juno or the Temple of Heironeous.
Personality and Behavior
Araxin's training and family life lead him to try and act formal, with no room for error; any mistakes he makes are embarrassments that should be covered up or dealt with as quickly as possible. As a representative from the Temple of Heironeous, Araxin is aware that his actions reflect upon them and so in public attempts to assume a responsible and confident aire, though he finds the conditions at Juno incredibly depressing.
On the subject of Magic, Araxin has become fairly confident and comfortable with his own abilities and limitations, though it sometimes irks him that he cannot do anything that will repair buildings, heal the wounded, etc. He keeps these feelings to himself.
Current Events
There is hope even in the darkest of places. We were able to negotiate a truce with the druids and perhaps they will aid us with our weather now; and the group which has come to speak to me is going to attempt to infiltrate the Citadel of Light. Though corruption and false hope have plagued Juno for a long time, I have faith that we will see this through to the end- or die trying. In the short time I began traveling again, we have already done so much!
Other People
- Murich Steel - I am glad to have Murich back, though he is silent nowadays. I suppose with all that has happened he has changed; but I hope when all is right in the world he will continue to aid others in finding the right path.
- Rayn - He seems quite cynical and quick to action, but I silently approve of the latter. The individual he stabbed in the stomach did try to kill us, as well as steal a ship, after all.
- Medea - I saw her fall before us trying to fight that woman with chains. If we are next in a fight where she stands so strong, I will try to protect her better by directing spells at those who she fights, and quickly.
- Lueali - His time under the earth seems to have softened him towards the underground elves; it is almost as if he's afraid to kill anything, anymore. I worry he will not be able to fight when the time comes to it.
- Lightning-Tiger Fire-Swan - Though I still worry about his age, he seems to have grown up, a little, in our travels.
- Khae - Reckless and determined, but unaware of his own strengths. It seems he does not even remember the time he jumped off a cliff to attack that bird creature.
- Flora - She survived! No words can express how glad I am to see her alive.
- Kate - "The Manslayer". But she actually apologized to me and seems to be even polite. I think the experiences we have all had have been very good for her. She even seemed to approve of my relationship.
- See-an - A strong supporter of the group, though she does so silently. I know well of the fight back in the swamps where she saved my life by staying by my side and healing me. And she does the same with the rest of the group. I think many people would be proud to have her by their side.
- Hardrick: It seems he is dead. Rest in peace; I will not forget the trust and encouragement you gave me, and I hope to see you again someday, even if it is in ivory halls.
- Elkis: It has come claiming the gods have forsaken us and no longer care. I think it likely steals people's souls and use it to empower themselves, or have warped arcane magic to suit their needs. I do not think it was a coincidence this 'god' came after our own temple lost its powers; I find it likely even if it were not somehow involved that they saw an opportunity to corrupt the people who only sought hope in a harsh world. Already, this entity shows a path of destruction in its wake.
- Elkis Followers: These poor disillusioned people do not understand the danger they are in. I would save them if I could; but not all will listen to what I have to say.
Epilogue
After death (and subsequent ressurection by the gods), Araxin returned to Juno to help rebuild and aid the city and temple that he called home. He continued pursuing a relationship with ***, and to this day neither of them play the silly games the other mages at the temple play. Araxin's spellcasting and knowledge compliments ***'s well, since she specializes in abjuration spells, whereas his own spells are mostly offensive.
The oaths Araxin took prevent him from remaining in Juno for too long, since he must chase down evil and eradicate it when he finds it. His behavior in this manner is often considered overzealous, since he's usually willing to drop whatever it is he's doing to chase down evil as immediately as possible. When not traveling Araxin can usually be found in the Temple of Heironeous. Araxin doesn't talk about what happened after the Citadel of Light blew up (and perhaps doesn't remember), but is sometimes seen rubbing the palm of his right hand absent-mindedly when deep in thought.
***I'm sure I have the correct spelling of her name on some note I lost. Elven abjurer. Works for the temple of Heironeous.
